Trying to fall pregnant can be a stressful time for you and your partner. There is something that is “just not right” about the inability to conceive when we have decided that now is the right time. Dr. Bailey, a well experienced gynaecologist, and his team are here to support you through this sometimes difficult and frustrating time.
It’s a good idea to come a little early to your first appointment to ensure we have all “the paperwork” and that it is completely entered into our electronic medical record before you meet Dr. Bailey. Your first visit is a bit longer than usual, as not only does Dr. Bailey want to hear you and your partner’s story, but also there is often a number of blood tests and imaging results to be reviewed and discussed with you.
At this point, there is often an examination to complete. Our nurse will stay by your side throughout the procedure and feel free to have your partner or friend join you if you wish. We recognise that this part of the visit is most uncomfortable for most women. Everything we do will be explained and will only proceed with your permission.
Dr. Bailey will now spend time with you to explain any physical findings and, together, make a plan that is safe, expert and efficient. Your plan may include further tests, imaging or even surgery. Once we have established that a pregnancy is physically possible, you may need help to ovulate. At Hunter Women’s Health Centre we only use oral agents to assist with ovulation. On the odd occasion that further help is needed, you will be referred to an IVF specialist. Our team will continue to provide whatever support you need throughout this entire time.
If you are nervous about making an appointment, feel free to come in for a chat before you commit. We would love to get to know you.
